Wangan Mignight The Movie 2009.
This movie is based off a long running comic series by Michihara Kusunoki.
High school student Akio Asakura played by Yuichi Nakamura
finds a Z240 at a junk yard
(we later find out it’s the same from the opening scene)
The car is old and in bad shape but has been modified with twin turbo engine from a Z280
and finds himself strangely drawn to the car
The previous owner also named Akio Asakura died while racing the car, feeling drawn the highschool
student puts all his energies into restoring the car.
The car however has a reputation as “devil Z” it is rumored to be cursed, to have a mind of its own
and if deemed unsuitable would cause a accident.
ignoring the warnings he fully restores and races along wangan line (The expressway running along the perimeter of tokyo bay)
Tatsuya Shima played by Kato Kazuki
a doctor who races at night and was there when the previous owner
crashed, he drives a Black porsche nicknamed by locals as black bird.
his girlfriend Eriko Asakura played by Ryoko kobayashi
is the sister of the same owner who wants to forget the accident of her brothers death and Devil Z in her own way.
The movie is mainly based around these 3 people however other characters frequently appear whether in Akios school life, restoring the Z or as a fellow Wangan racer.
Main plot is around the car itself and the fact it seems to be cursed with its own mind, but it delves into why some risk their lives racing the expressway late at night.
the movie is good with a few slow parts but well shot the characters are well acted and as the ending implies
Z will be back
I do recommend watching this is a little different then i normally watch.
